MERCY AND COMPASSION SURPASSES LAW

Sermon on John 8:1-12

One day as I spent time studying the eight chapter of the gospel of John, the Lord Jesus opened my spiritual eyes of understanding to behold His marvelous love and compassion being extended toward a woman caught in the very act of adultery. As she stood in His presence without hope the things began to change. The Lord Jesus reversed the situation in wisdom, by demonstrating the power of compassion to save that woman from the penalty of death. Thus I was prompted to share a few thoughts on the subject, on how “mercy and compassion surpasses Law” I wish to also mention that as Christians we are definitely the most privileged and blessed people on earth today. I have the assurance that you too will be immensely blessed to know who the Lord Jesus is and what His awesome grace would mean to you. Be blessed even as you take time to read.

Reading John 8:1 – 12

This passage of scripture reveals to us that . . . . . . .

God’s, mercy and compassion surpasses law . . . . . . . .

. . . . . According to the Criteria mentioned in the gospel of John 8:1 - 12

MERCY AND COMPASSION SURPASSES LAW

Why did the Lord Jesus ignore the scribes and Pharisees question?

Scribes and Pharisees were a part of the highest Judicial and ecclesiastical council of the ancient Jewish nation which comprised of around 70 to 72 members. The scribes were experts in the Mosaic Law who interpreted and taught it in the temple and synagogues, therefore they were sometimes known as lawyers even in the times of the Lord Jesus. The Pharisees meaning “set apart” were extremely zealous for the oral Law given by God to Moses. They wielded substantial authority and influence in Israel, often demanding undue respect and recognition in every day life in and around the society they lived and where ever they happened to go. From the very inception of His ministry, the Pharisees showed themselves bitter and persistent enemies of the Lord Jesus. They neither accepted His teaching, nor did they ever believe in Him as the Son of God. Instead being misguided in their own thinking giving into every false pretense, they sought for ways and means to hinder His influence and ministry among the people while secretly plotted to kill Him. Envious of the Lord Jesus’ ministry and popularity, they teamed together with one another and other groups of the Sanhedrin with the only purpose of fault finding, persecuting, and following the Lord Jesus every where He went. Notice even on this occasion their desperation to trap the Lord into saying something against their traditions or philosophies, waiting for an opportunity to accuse Him of wrong doing, thus they brought the victim to Him insisting Him for an answer “But what do you say?”(Jn.8:5). The Lord Jesus knowing of their evil intent and wanting to do them a favor rather chose to ignored them, never the less, His silence became a point of contempt, that it lead them do something stupid on their part, thus they kept on pressing Him for an answer.

Many thoughts and ideas would cross our minds and many would even be prompted to say this, that and the other in connection with the situation. However it is only a careful observation and scrutiny of the incident with sufficientbackground information that would convince us that the Lord’s behavior justified His actions. The Lord Jesus had obviously returned back to the temple from a very fruitful time of prayer and fellowship with The Father on the Mount of Olives (Mtt.14:23;Mk.6:46; Lk.6:12; 9:28). As the crowds gathered in the morning at the temple, for all we know the Lord could have been instructing the people this morning about the Law itself, teaching them truths about it, in preparation for the Kingdom of God that was to come. The occasion was a Jewish festival, and the Jews are compelled to present themselves before God three times annually (Ex.23:17; 34:23-24; Deut.16:16), thus they were privileged on this occasion to meet with the Lord Jesus, to see Him and to taught by Him, and learn about the Kingdom of God. Adultery is an offense punishable by stoning to death according to Mosaic Law (Lev.20:10), and even though the scribes and Pharisees were thorough in their knowledge of the Law, instead of executing it through the judiciary and religious system that prevailed, enveloped in their craftiness and blindness, they connived together with the other members of the Sanhedrin and opted to passed the Law, to their advantage for unscrupulous purposes hoping that the Lord Jesus would misinterpret or state something contrary to the Law of Moses, so that they could accuse Him of a Law breaker and a heretic.

Why did the Lord Jesus say “he who is without sin let him cast the first stone?

The New Testament addresses a great deal on various issue of sin and its consequence, the Apostle Paul a Scholar and a Pharisee himself (Phi.3:5) in his epistle to the Romans gives deep insights on the subject. He tells us that “For until the law sin was in the world, but sin is not imputed when there is no law” (Ro.5:13) in other words the purpose of the Law was to only educate humans of what sin was and its consequences. He further expounds of two spiritual Laws that are at work, and that it seeks to have dominion over human lives, namely the Law of sin and death, and the Law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus (Ro.8:2). Therefore even though the Law was holy, good and was in force, it did not qualify by itself, or nor did it posses the power or ability to justify the sinner, rather it was only a means of dealing with sin without grace (Ro.7:13-14). Thus the Lord Jesus in wanting the woman to avail herself of the gift of salvation and to spare the woman from the death penalty, in His wonderful love and compassion exercised His wisdom, to enable her and those present there, to know and understand that God was concerned of saving the sinner while He dealt with the sin. Thus the Lord Jesus addressed the issue of sin in fairness to everyone, in pointing out the truth about the hopeless state of the Law that not even the scribes or even the Pharisees were spared

in the Judgment of sin, neither anyone was immune from sin and none could be immune of sin, because it resides in the human system buffeting us at every turn and twist (Ro.7:17). In the end we find that there was none able to resist the power of conviction nor able to overcome the power of guilt, instead every one was compelled to leave one at a time, leaving the woman alone to herself, at which point she was completely set free from all her accusers and even from all her sins, for the Lord Jesus tells her “neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more” (Jn.8:11).

Where mercy and compassion surpass the Law

The following verse reveals truth about the Lord Jesus and the purpose of His presence on earth. He said “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me hall not walk in darkness, but have the light of Life” in this context “light” represents righteousness, so as light radiates its glory and its power clearly evident, so did the Lord Jesus manifest the glory of God and demonstrated His spiritual power through His lifestyle of righteousness. The only means to comprehend this truth is that we take walk through the doors of the Law, for the Law was implemented to prevent man from falling into greater danger than he had already fallen into. For the Law is truly a marvelous revelation of God Himself, His many attributes and it was also the means by which the Lord Jesus Christ was revealed to man. Thus God so loved the world that He sent the Lord Jesus His only begotten Son, that through faith in Him that none should perish nor be condemned to eternal destruction (Jn.3:16). The Hebrew word ‘racham’ (rakh’-am) is translated in English first as bowels: The belly or womb and secondly compassion: As the belly being the seat of compassion (The Word AHLB) and the Bible tells us that “Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed. Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning” (Lam.3:22-23). Thus mercy and compassion of the Lord Jesus continues to flow toward man even unto this very day as a never drying fountain of a river. Amen!

In Jesus Christ you have answers to all your lives questions, as even this woman caught in the very act of adultery and was destined to die with no hope of survival, yet Jesus Christ was present to save that woman not only from the death penalty and her accuses, but she also received the wonderful gift of God’s salvation. You too can have that marvelous gift of God’s salvation and the mighty grace mercy and compassion of the Lord today if you will only accept it. Just repeat this prayer to the Lord Jesus and experience the difference in your life. say

Dear Lord Jesus I believe that you died to save me from going into a lost eternity, please forgive all my sins and wash my heart spirit and soul with your precious blood, and cleanse me. Now come into my heart and be the Lord of my life. Thank you Lord Jesus. Amen

The Lord Bless you richly

SPIRITUAL PURSUIT ENDS WITH WORSHIP

Sermon on John 4:10 - 26

In conclusion of the message of the “Samaritan Encounter” I wish to mention that I was immensely blessed spending time in the study of the life and the love of Christ Jesus for man. Observing the ministry of Jesus and His passion for souls, it spoke to me volumes of God’s wonderful goodness and mercy toward man and how highly He values human lives. It was a tremendous revelation of His desperation to establish a relationship with man to ensure that man does not end up going into a lost eternity, rather be saved and spend eternity with God and in His awesome presence.

Reading from the Gospel of John 4:10 – 26

These scriptures reveal that spiritual contentment is found in worship

Spiritual Pursuit ends with Worship . . . . . .

. . . According to the Criteria mentioned in the gospel of John 4: 17 – 26

1. SPIRIUTUAL PURSUIT ENDS WITH WORSHIP

Why would the Lord Jesus want to meet this woman with her husband?

We need to understand that the Lord Jesus Christ was on divine assignment firstly, to establish the Kingdom of God on earth and secondly, to reach the lost tribes of Israel, thus it necessitated Him on this occasion to journey through Samaria. His first ever encounter in Samaria, was this hopelessly broken, desperate, and confused woman. Ever so overwhelmed with a passion for human souls, He was moved to reach her and win her over to the Kingdom of God. Thus He welcomed Him self to an unusual conversation wanting to draw her attention to the truth and reality of life. Divine insight and wisdom led Him to penetrate through to her by touching a crucial and emotional need, which really loosed her from an inferiority complex that gave her an impetus of boldness, finally setting her free from a spirit of oppression and bondage of spiritual darkness (2Co.4:4). Instantly her eyes of understanding were opened, that she responded positively to the purpose of life.

When and where did man begin to experience an endless spiritual pursuit?

Responding to the woman’s question concerning the place of worship, the Lord Jesus continues to reveal that the need and the hour had finally come for a dynamic change to occur in man’s life and his relationship with the Most High, thus “Worship” immerges as the subject matter for discussion.

Research on the subject will enable us to establish facts of its routs, which give us great insight of what man’s relationship with God ought to be. Therefore the best source for reliable information is found no where else other that in scripture. A look at the book of Genesis gives us the chronology of events of the beginning of time, and its subsequent consequences. Notice that as we go through in Genesis, it says “For in the day thou eatest, thereof thou shalt surely die” (Ge.2:17) further on in scripture, clear we see, how Adam and Eve instantly inherited spiritual death, followed with the pronouncement of physical death and judgment. This tells us two things, first by disobeying God’s commands, we loose spiritual protection, it paves the way for confusion to take rout in our hearts, and finally it brings us into a state of emotional depression, while at the same time we expose our selves to every spiritual adversary.

Secondly we experience guilt and fear which becomes a pedestal for spiritual set backs, personal condemnation, that eventually leads us into fathomless depths of destructive spiritual bondage. Reading further on in chapter three, it tells us about the horrific consequences Adam and Eve faced, and the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were both naked(Ge.3:7). Thus their spiritual eyes were opened to face sin’s consequences, and it meant that from that point on they were independent of divine guidance and separate from the presence of God, and were exposed to every evil onslaught of the devil and his demons. This explains the beginning of spiritual barrenness, cause of spiritual quest. Ever since then man began to grope in spiritual darkness and were never quite able to see the living light of God. Thus the quest continues even to this day, and man continues to wonder around, trying various methods, and tries experimenting on his own to find a suitable solution to end his quest. Thus the Lord Jesus Christ spoke concerning the need for true spiritual worship for it is the only means available to man, to awaken him from his slumber, to restore him back to God attract the attention of the Creator, toward him.

At the same time we see how Jesus Christ used the opportunity to bring agreat spiritual revival to sweep over Samaria, which was symbolic of a reunification of the twelve tribes of Israel. Until up to that point of time the twelve tribes of Israel were a divided nation living in hate, despising each other. The timing in that direction was appropriate, thus the Lord Jesus Christ in fulfilling His divine mission emphasized upon the spirit of worship, which finally transformed the woman’s entire world of thinking and lifestyle completely. Further expounding the truth about worship He said that worship was, hence never going to be according to the traditional Jewish system, rather it was the time that the Father had predestined to establish a true spirit of worship among His people, writing the Law of it in their hearts (Jer.24;7; 30:22; 31:1; 33;), who would render worship in spirit and in truth. Thus provision was made for worship in the spirit through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ the only begotten, the Son of the Living God.

Why did Jesus say “ye worship ye know not what?

It is important that we have a good understanding of why the woman questioned Jesus about the place of worship, and why Jesus Christ said to thewoman “ye worship ye know not what.” In the Old Testament Law or the “Torah” the book of “Leviticus” is the book that gives us a clear description of Israel’s covenant relationship with God and it describes every detail of the Hebrew worship System. It was compulsory that everyone was educated concerning the sanctity of God and the responsibility of each individual to live a holy life (Lev.19:2) and the many sacrifices were symbolic of a true spirit of worship. When Israel went into captivity in 725 B.C. the Assyrian king, brought people from Babylon, Cuthah, Ava, Hamath, and form Sepharvaim, and placed them in the cities of Samaria instead of the children of Israel (2Kg.17:24) and with that the ten tribes of Israel completely succumbed to pagan worship, thus they even lost their Jewish identity. Never the less when Judah went into captivity of the Babylonians, in 586 B.C. (2Kg.25:5-7; 2Ch.36:5-7), they understood that they were punished by God for their unfaithfulness. Whilst in the Babylonian captivity there were devout Jews who preserved their Jewish identity continuing to be faithful to Jehovah God. A remnant of Jews left behind refrained from mingling themselves with other nations by remaining faithful they were able to preserve their Jewish identity event to this date.

Secondly we need to know that true worship is spontaneous that springs out of a heart of affection and gratitude. Worship is also the spiritual act that reflects the attitude and the emotions of man’s inner spirit (Ro.12:1-2). This means that the inner spirit person cannot involve himself in effectual, true worship without first having his spirit awakened to the reality of the existence of the Living God, and the prospect of having a dynamic spiritual relationship with this living God. It just cannot happen without first the individual acknowledging Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, to whom all adoration, praise and thanks giving is due.

Why do we need to gain a clear understanding of worship?

The above section explains the need for a spiritual reconciliation with Godand “worship” is our topic for discussion. Thus we endeavor to understand what “Worship” is all about. For fruitful and meaningful worship to take effect we need to have a clear perception of the Creator and what “Worship” means to Him. The Old Testament gives us comprehensive details of worship, thus we shall focus the book of Leviticus for our study of worship. The word “Worship” is mentioned 115 times in the Old Testament while the New Testament mentions it 73 times, the reason that “Worship” is mentioned innumerous times in the bible makes it clear of two things.

First, according to Genesis (Ge.2:7) the imputation of the Creator’s breath of lifegives man his existence. Thus the creation story tells us that there was a very vital spiritual link established at the beginning between God and man which was never to be broken. Man’s disobedience to God’s command brought about its complete destruction and its detrimental repercussions so that he began to experience a fathomless spiritual vacuum in life, that spiritual reconciliation with God is an extreme necessity.

Secondly we need to also know that even though man chose to live independently of the Creator, he still owes his existence to the Living God, and he is also held accountable for his life, in every realm, sphere and to every degree. Man however is, incapable of bridging this spiritual gap by him self. Nevertheless he tirelessly endeavors seeking an end to an endless quest that only Jesus Christ is able to satisfy (Jn.1:12-13; 3:3-6). Thus “Worship” is of utmost importance, for it becomes the means that draws man toward God, restoring back the lost vital link with his Creator.

A Look through to understand what is meant by worship

The Hebrew word shachah (shaw-khaw')means to depress, i.e. prostrate (especially reflexive, in homage to royalty or God)(Ge.22:5; 24:26; Ex.4:31; 24:1) and the word cagad (saw-gad') means to prostrate oneself (in homage)

In Greek proskuneo (pros-koo-neh'-o)means to fawn or crouch to; to fall face down (prostrate) in adoration; a physical act of lowering oneself in humble submission with an attitude of utmost adoration or respect; and the Greek word latreuo (lat-ryoo'-o) to minister (to God), i.e. render religious homage; “Worship” thus means that human’s recognize the Creator and His worthiness, His awesome grace, mercy and goodness and His benevolence toward him, and in return, he passionately acknowledge, ascribing all the glory due to His God. Thus “Worship” means the creature doing to the Creator what the Creator cannot do for Himself (Ps.29:2; 86:9; 95:6; 138:2; Is.27:13)

In conclusion worship should be seen as “personal affection expressed to the Creator of a heart of purity and innocence.” Be blessed and experience unlimited favor and grace of the Almighty through the spirit of worship. Amen!

Dear reader, I wish to tell you that since I began to worship God my life changed dramatically that I was just absorbed into ministry to serve Him. I have continued to serve God for over twenty five years now and I have never been put to shame or never been let down by God even though I have been through some though times in life. Today even as I draw to a close on this message, I want to thank God for all His rich mercies poured upon me all through my life serving Him. You can experience too His awesome love and goodness just by beginning to worship Him, and He will take you to great height you have never imagined you would get to. God is good and He loves you and cares for you. Be Blessed

All you need is just call upon the Lord Jesus Christ and He will certainly hear you and answer at your point of need.

The Lord Bless you richly

THE FOUNTAIN OF LIVING WATER

Last week I began on the topic of ‘The Samarian Encounter’ in which we discussed about how Jesus Christ set the example of breaking all cultural barriers to reach the lost tribes of Israel. He was purpose driven and focused on Kingdom priorities, never ever faltering in His mission, thus setting us a tremendous example to follow. Today we look further into the subject wanting to understand what Jesus Christ really meant by “Living Water”

Reading from the Gospel of John 4:10-14

These scriptures reveal that Jesus Christ is the source of living water

Living water quenches spiritual thirst . . . . . .

. . . According to the Criteria mentioned in the gospel of John 4: 10 – 14

1. LIVING WATER QUENCHES SPIRITUAL THIRST, John 4:10-14

Why did Jesus Christ speak of God’s gift and offer to give “Living Water”?(John 4:10)

Jesus Christ’s encounter with the Samarian woman certainly was never an accident; rather it was planned for well ahead of the journey (Jn.4:4). Motivated by His love for human lives, values of the Kingdom of God, and His passion for souls, He begins the process of fulfilling His mission to Samaria. Thus avoiding all distractions and vain arguments, He directly gets to the point in talking to the woman about the “gift of God” and how if desired she could benefit in receiving “Living Water” for herself.

The Greek word for “gift” dorea (do-reh-ah) denotes “a free gift” stressing its gratuitous character; it is always used in the NT of a spiritual or supernatural gift (VineNT). Thus while it means salvation to the human race, in this instance it certainly concerned the Samaritans, however it could have also meant that this discarded woman was afforded the opportunity to meet with the messiah in person, for He was certainly the promise of God that was to come into the world. Secondly perceiving her ignorance He draws her attention to the reality of her encounter with Himself, wanting to bless her, He exposes Himself as the one who is the fountain of “Living Water” hinting that her blessing was just at her door step and that it was time for a dynamic and powerful opening to a new beginning in her life.

What is “Living Water” and how important is it to our spiritual lives? (John 4:13-14)

Water naturally is the most important source of all types of animal and plantlife so much that about seventy five percent of the makeup of our body constitutes water. Therefore it would be appropriate to state that water is the sustainer plus the source of all natural life. Similarly“Living Water” is the source of spiritual existence; fertility; blessing; refreshing; and is also the sustainer and energizer of spiritual life. Centuries had gone by and the entire nation of Israel including Samaria was spiritually parched and famished, it was a period of great yearning and longing for the Jews as well as the Samaritans who day in day out were looking forward to receive God’s promise of the redeemer. Even though they yearned and longed so much for the promise of God, yet they failed to recognize their promised Messiah on His arrival thus, they deprived themselves of being the first to benefit of that wonderful vital spiritual awakening and revival that God so earnestly desired them to have, for in their great folly and blindness they simply forsook the “Living Water” that was so richly and lavishly poured upon them (Is.44:3).

How does “Living Water” quench spiritual thirst? (John 4:13-14)

“Living Water” as mentioned elsewhere in scripture clearly refers to the source of spiritual satisfaction that the human spirit constantly longs for, and it is a free gift that God offers people through Jesus Christ to anyone who desires to have. At the same time the recipient is fully able to avail himself of all of its benefits endlessly because, Christ Himself comes to reside in us, to give us spiritual strength and power to live an overcoming life through humility; obedience, established upon a personal relationship with the spirit of the Living God (Rev.3:19-20; Jer.2:13; 17:13; Zec.14:8). Therefore it should be seen that the meeting at the well in sychar was a divine encounter, the fulfillment of God’s promise to His people and was divinely ordained. Thus Jesus Christ was not only the “Living Water” who quenched spiritual thirst, but He was also the life generating word of God that would bring Joy, Peace, life and Hope, into human lives who, ultimately quenches every human quest for spiritual satisfaction. “Living Water” was thus symbolic of the outpouring of God the Holy Spirit, upon those who were destined for salvation through whom the Kingdom of God was to be established on earth. The work of the Son of God was to reach and prepare people for the coming of God the Holy Spirit onto earth and therefore He states “the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life” (Jn.6:35; 7:37-37).

What an awesome truth and gift of God, was this discarded outcast woman afforded that day. Never quite realizing its purpose and need, yet the mighty grace; and love of Christ eventually made sure that she became the happy recipient of “Living Water” that birthed a well of water in her, springing up into everlasting life. She never was the same ever again; instead was transformed to become a dynamic vessel of influence to be a powerful witness carrying the message of salvation unto a whole village who was in darkness.

You too can receive the gift of God today by simply willing to drink the living water that the Lord Jesus Christ offers that would turn out to become a well of everlasting life.

The Lord richly Bless you . . . . . . . . . . .

THE SAMARIAN ENCOUNTER

The Samaritan encounter typically portrays the purpose driven spirit filled lifestyle of a true citizens of God’s Kingdom on earth. Jesus Christ sets up the stage for us by demonstrating that spiritual dynamics is made manifest and released in no other way but by humility. The need of the hour today is quite evident. We need to have a resurrection of such spirit filled purpose driven citizens of God’s Kingdom begin involving them selves in active ministry for thus is the mandate given to His people in these last days.

Let us read John 4:4-9

These scriptures reveal how a Samarian woman has an encounter with Jesus Christ

An encounter with Jesus Christ is life changing . . . . . .

. . . According to the Criteria mentioned in the gospel of John 4: 4 – 9

1. AN ENCOUNTER WITH JESUS CHRIST IS LIFE CHANGING, John 4: 4 – 9

Why did Jesus Christ determine to walk through Samaria? (John 4:4)

The noon time scene at Jacob’s well in Sychar of Samaria was somewhat of a rare occasion never the less Jesus Christ purposed in His heart to travel through Samaria indicating to us that God had not completely left out Samaria all together. The Jews looked down on the Samaritans as a mixed race and therefore they had no dealings with the Samaritans whatsoever. King Solomon's rebellion against the Lord's command caused a great division within the United Kingdom of Israel during the reign of his son King Rehoboam around 930 BC (1Kg.11:11; 12:16-19). On account of the Davidic covenant even though God appeared to King Solomon on several occasions wanting him to fall inline with the divine will for the chosen race, however despite all these powerful visions yet King Solomon failed to heed the voice of God in repenting of his folly (1Kg.11:11-12; 35-36). It was here that the downfall of the United Kingdom of Israel begins that ultimately led them into captivity and the Diaspora of this once great nation.

Jesus Christ had already ventured deep in to His ministry on earth fulfilling His calling in reaching the lost and merging ahead touching people everyday with the message of Love and of God’s Kingdom (Mtt.15:24; Lk.19:10; Jn.17:12; 18:9). Samaria was destined to receive a dynamic spiritual reawakening like never before. As is always Jesus chose the downtrodden simple and the outcast to glorify Himself in Samaria too, thus He decided to reach the humble rather than go to the elite. The Samarian woman was all confused and did not know the right way of life but having met with Jesus Christ she instantly began to focus on what real life was all about. The only way to reach her was to touch the very nerve center of her being and that is exactly what Jesus did in talking to her about her life’s situation and thereby, He drew her attention hitting right on the head by asking her for a drink. The subject was very relevant while it also had deep spiritual meaning that penetrated the woman’s very heart and soul that she could no longer continue to be a spectator instead she becomes a vibrant witness for Jesus Christ. This woman’s lifestyle was dramatically changed that thereafter she began living a purposeful and blessed life. What a remarkable encounter did it turned out to be? Truly an encounter with Jesus Christ is always a life changing experience (Jn.1:12-13; 2Co. 5:17)

Why did Jesus Christ choose to sit at the well? (John 4:6)

The mention of the well in this passage would instantly create in our minds animage of a gushing fresh water spring which could be seen as a symbol of life of the spirit. Jacob’s well though more than 75ft in depth was never a spring well of running fresh water, instead its supply of water depended entirely upon rainfall and percolation. Thus in this case the well should be seen as a symbol of futility and dullness of life, in real life it meant that the residents of Sychar were to be content with rain water instead of fresh water from a wellspring. Jesus Christ the Charismatic and compassionate leader of the day was also the Son of the Living God who came to save the world of its sin and to pave the way of life to the lost. The Samaritans were a part of the lost ten tribes of Israel and His ministry primarily was to the lost sheep of Israel (Mtt.10:6; 15:24; 18:11; Lk.19:10). The well was significant since it was named after in memory of Israel’s patriarch and it was situated in the land gifted by him to his favorite son Joseph and the well stood out as a symbol of the ancestry that depicted the historicity of ancient Israel. As the Son of God Jesus Christ knew the events of the next moment thus He waited for the arrival of the city’s outcast to bring meaning and purpose of life to an entire village and through it to the rest of the lost tribes of Israel.

Secondly His purpose was to demonstrate to His disciples the uniqueness of the message and spiritual dynamics of the Kingdom. He also demonstrated that the message of the Kingdom possessed the power to destroy all opposition and that it has the power to surpass every barrier that stood in its way of hindrance to reconciling the human race and as the chosen race of God it was to begin with Israel (Jn.4:9; 1Pe.4:17 ). Jesus Christ’s speaking to the Samarian woman was significant and Historic, it was also symbolic of unifying the nation of Israel so much so that as we look at this wonderful nation today, we see Israel as one united family with no division’s what so ever amongst these twelve tribes. Amen!

Why did Jesus Christ say to the woman Give Me a drink? (John 4:7)

Again Jesus Christ demonstrated the power of the spirit of wisdom by being very pragmatic in asking the woman for a drink leaving no room for enmity or fear rather in humility opening a door for a fruitful dialogue. Notice that Jesus tactfully responds to the woman’s query by asking her a simple question even though the woman does not grasp the significance of His statement rather finds her self settling into a friendly atmosphere so that she feels comfortable, in curiosity and amusement to dialogue with a young Jew who speaks of strange things. Even though water was the subject matter it had relevance and spiritual significance to the conversation. While the woman only perceived the natural aspect of it to her own advantage and benefit, the Love of Christ was purposeful and penetrating her spirit and soul, touching her with the power of the spirit of life with the potential of not only reaching this outcast woman but through her also to reach the entire village and the rest of the lost tribes of Israel as well. A drink of cold water is certainly the most refreshing and perfect drink that anyone would like to have to quench one’s thirst, but here was the giver of the water of life sitting right beside her offering to refresh and quench her spiritual thirst and quest for eternity sustaining her entire being (body soul and spirit). Oh! what an awesome and glorious opportunity did this discarded outcast have that day? She was so blessed that she was never the same ever again. Wow what a blessed hope do you and I have in the Lord Jesus Christ? Praise God for giving us His only begotten Son so that now you and I can hope in Him for our redemption and eternal life. Amen!

Even today Jesus Christ is watching waiting for you to come to Him that you too can have an encounter with Him that would change your life for ever giving you new hope and power to live for His glory doing extra ordinary things to reach out and touch people to save them from eternal damnation. Would you like to be a vessel for Him? Or receive a touch from Him?

If that is your desire, then just say Lord Jesus please touch me and make me whole come into my heart and let your life shine in me for your glory Amen!

The Lord Bless you richly . . . . . . .
